Apple is reportedly gearing up for a major design overhaul with its upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models. Reports say Apple plans to place the Face ID sensors under the display, which makes the Dynamic Island redundant.
The company has been planning for this change over the last few years which gives it more screen real estate and a thin bezels and we could finally see it happen in the next few years.
Apple also wants to bring sleek design for the iPhone 18 Pro models, with a minimal hole at the top-left corner of the screen for the front camera. Face ID technology would be moved under the display, eliminating the need for the pill-shaped Dynamic Island cutout.
The report does not say whether Dynamic Island will be completely phased out from all the models, which seems unlikely.
According to Display Industry Analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to feature under-screen Face ID, a rumour now supported by multiple sources. Apple is likely to reveal the new devices in September 2026.
In addition to the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Air, Apple is reportedly planning to release its first-ever foldable smartphone next year. The same report says the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Air, and foldable models are expected to launch in September 2026, while the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e may be released in Spring 2027.
If these plans come to fruition, Apple’s iPhone lineup for 2026 could be its most diverse yet, featuring a sleek Air model, high-end Pro devices, and a foldable phone. The company is also set to introduce the first-ever Air model with the upcoming iPhone 17 series, expected to launch in September this year.
